What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp Micropigmentation is the process of tattooing the scalp with a grouping of microneedles. It gives the appearance of fuller hair by adding density to thinning hair for men and women. It is also for male pattern baldness creating the look of a fresh just buzzed haircut or a close shave. It’s a non-invasive service and more affordable than costly hair transplants.

Why do I need Scalp Micropigmentation?

First of all, understand that it’s not your fault that you are experiencing hair loss. Whether it’s hair loss all over the scalp or just in specific areas, it’s a daily challenge and struggles and we understand it can hurt your self-confidence. While you may try to conceal the area with your hairstyle, hair product, hairpiece or hat, that too can be inconvenient and tough on your daily mental state. “What if it’s windy out, what if it rains or I go swimming, what if I exercise and sweat and what if I can’t find my hat that matches what I’m wearing?”

Scalp Micropigmentation is for anyone who is suffering from moderate to extensive hair loss and is looking for a non-invasive solution. Here are some of the benefits of the treatment:

  • Renewed confidence
  • More time to get ready daily
  • The look of youth
  • An affordable alternative to surgery
  • Discrete and professional service in a licensed establishment
  • Minimal pain or discomfort
  • No real downtime
  • No scarring
  • Minimal maintenance at the three to three and one half year mark

When I decide to move forward, how soon after the consultation can this service be done?

Most often the service can be started within 2 to 3 weeks from the consultation.

How many service do I need to have completed before I see results?

After the first service, clients are able to see a distinct difference. With each following session, the treatment continues to evolve, as do the results. Results do vary for each client. Slow and steady placement of the stippling ensures a natural, attractive result.

How long does this entire treatment take?

Each treatment consists of three total sessions. Each session ranges from three to five hours. If additional treatments are needed, each additional session can last one to three hours.

What type of pigment is used? Does my hair color play a factor?

Lincoln Scalp Micropigmentation uses 5PM Shadow SMP pigment.
Yes, hair color does play a factor in the color choice. The pigment color choice is based on your natural hair color, your level on the Fitzpatrick scale and what color you plan to keep your hair. Most often, a neutral or mid-level color is used as we can always go darker with each session.

Can you give me a quick overview of the process?

Before the service starts, we will show you the sterile, single-use, disposable items on the setup tray. We measure and mark the areas that SMP will be performed. Depending on your needs, we will start the service on the back of the scalp and work forward. Clients are able to watch, read or listen to music on their phone during the service. Clients are also able to take a restroom, quick snack break or stretch their legs.

What if I have to leave early during a session due to an emergency?

We try to stay flexible with client needs. If for any reason you do need to leave a session early, we can add an additional session at a later time to finish the previous session’s pigmentation.

Is the service painful?

Most people say the first 5 minutes are the most uncomfortable. After that on a scale of 1-10, most would rate the pain as a 2 to 3. This service is considered to be more annoying or irritating than painful.

How will I look immediately after the service?

Immediately after, you may have some redness that normally subsides within 5-10 hours. Also, the stippling or tattooing looks darker and more “dot” like. Over the next 10 days, the stippling fades and shrinks creating the look of a hair follicle or new hair growth.

Will someone be able to tell I have had this treatment done?

People will notice that you look happier and feel more confident! Most often, our clients tell us people don’t know exactly what changed unless they tell them. Scalp Micropigmentation is a subtle, natural solution.

How should I prepare for this treatment? Do I need to shave my head before the first session?

Each client is different. You will be directed at your consultation based on which treatment we will do. At your consultation, we will discuss how you can best prepare. You may need to have a fully shaved head prior to treatment, as we want to make sure your scalp is healthy and moisturized. We also ask that you:

  • Do not come into our treatment center with a sunburned or overly tanned scalp.
  • Stop using any blood thinning medications or vitamins at least 24-hours prior to your service.
  • Do not drink large quantities of alcohol the evening before your service or any the day of your service.
  • Caffeine can make some people extra sensitive to pain or increase anxiety. Limit your caffeine intake, including coffee, sodas, pre work out drinks and energy drinks.
  • Wear comfortable clothing to your appointment.
  • Eat a light meal before your appointment and bring a snack or drink with you.
  • Stop using any hair regrowth products for 28 days before the service.
  • Do not color your hair one week before the service or for 2 weeks after the service.

How long is my recovery after the treatment? Will I have to take time off work, etc?

Healing time takes approximately 4-7 days. You can return to work the day of treatment.

When can I first expose my head to the sun?

Please wait for a full Thirty days for complete sun exposure. Example – sitting by the pool or at a sporting event without wearing a hat would lessen the results from the treatment. We also ask you plan to wear sunscreen on your scalp to increase the longevity of your SMP.

How can I maintain the treatment's aesthetic?

Our team will give you specific pre-care and after-care instructions at our consultation. We ask that you follow the instructions, as it is crucial and can affect the outcome of each of the three sessions. After the sessions are complete, to maintain your overall treatment, we recommend wearing sunscreen and limiting sun exposure daily.

Do you have a service to correct faulty SMP?

The best way to correct faulty SMP is to go to a highly trained practitioner. Poorly done SMP is very hard to correct. The most recommended way to remove a faulty SMP treatment is through laser treatment, which we do not offer. With some cases of faded SMP, it is possible to adjust correct areas with newly tattooed stippling to blend the original SMP.

About how many years after this initial treatment, will my SMP fade? How much does it cost to have a touch up?

All scalp micro-pigmentation treatments will fade around the three to three and a half year mark, if initial aftercare is followed. To have an update or a “scalp refresher,” it’s $400 per session. After that, an additional session could potentially be needed.

Will this service need to be redone later to fill in spaces as I continue to lose more hair? If so, how much would it cost?

Yes, that is a possibility. Hair loss normally happens slowly and over time. Each situation is assessed individually. A general range would be $400-$800.

If after treatment, I am unhappy or there's a mistake made during the treatment, how much would I have to pay to get the mistake corrected?

If you do not follow the pre and aftercare directions, you may need an additional session that’s not quoted in the initial pricing. It would be $400.
We take every precaution during all of our sessions. We start with a mid-level color and keep all of the stippling/tattooing spaced out to a safe distance for healing. With each session, we can darken the color and add additional stippling in the small open spaces. The placement of stippling in each service is conservative.

What will make my Scalp Micropigmentation fade?

The following may cause fading: sun damage (sunburn), not wearing sunscreen, not using hair conditioner, not having a touch up at the three to three and a half year mark, illnesses, medications and sometimes, hair transplants. Additionally, if you do not complete all three sessions or any additional sessions that were recommended at the initial consultation or first session results may greatly vary.

Can Scalp Micropigmentation hide scars?

Yes! Scar work or cosmetic correction takes patience as we have to go very lightly on the area, and often need one or two additional sessions. Scars may require dry needling sessions prior to scar camouflaging with SMP. However, we have seen great results using this treatment to effectively hide scars.

What’s the closest airport to Omaha Scalp Micropigmentation?

As one of the only SMP destinations in the midwest, we fully encourage people who may not live in Lincoln to reach out about services. Lincoln is an easily accessible city by car, train or plane – we recommend the nearby Lincoln Airport in Lincoln, or Eppley Airfield.
